Boat Windows

  • Our boat windows - We have been fabricating and forming acrylic boat windows for over 30 years and seen many boats and manufacturers come and go, however the boats keep coming back for 'new windows'.
  • Materials - We can supply both acrylic and polycarbonate replacement windows. The choice of material depends on the application, but generally we recommend acrylic. Polycarbonate is without doubt the toughest and clearest option. If you are planning an ocean crossing then this is the best choice. Most of us potter around the coast giving acrylic (Perspex) the clear advantage

  • Manufacturing - Ideally the old windows make the best patterns as we can then ensure an exact fit utilising the already pre drilled holes in the superstructure. If this is not possible then we can manufacture new windows using a template. Our manufacturing process ensures that there is no chipping or cracking around the window. Chips and cracks are starting points for 'crack propagation'. We grind the window after cutting and anneal the window to relax any machine stresses.
  • Fitting - The windows can be either 'bolt on' or glazed in rubber. We supply both a wide range of rubber fixing kits and stainless steel nuts, bolts and screws. The preferred fitting is stainless steel interscrew that doesn't in any way 'stress' the plastic. When fitting windows try not exert too much stress by bowing the plastic around the hull / superstructure. If a curvature is required then consider having the window formed. Please also avoid using countersunk screws as ountersinking screws effectively drive a wedge into the acrylic resulting in cracking. Most of the windows that come in for replacement are cracked at the countersunk screw holes. Interscrews or pan heads are much preferred. We also offer a fitting service. Costs vary depending on location. Please contact us for more information.
  • Aftercare - Keep your windows clean by washing with warm soapy water. Avoid solvents and grinding dried salt into the acrylic.

Washboards

  • Our washboards - Clear or tinted washboards make living on board much more comfortable. Plenty of light, weather protection and no claustrophobia.
  • Materials - We can fabricate these from all thicknesses from 3mm to 15mm in clear and tint but the most common is 10mm. Grey tint, bronze tint or clear.
  • Manufacturing - Most washboards are in two pieces but they can be made in a single piece or in three as required. If your slides aren't exactly 10mm don't worry. We can either thin or thicken the edges as required. The joint between the washboards is usually cut at 30 degrees and polished. This ensures that the rain stays on the outside. All edges are polished for comfortable handling and good appearance. We can manufacture washboards either using the old washboards or a template.
  • Fitting - Simply slide your new washboards in place. We also offer a fitting service. Costs vary depending on location. Please contact us for more information.
  • Aftercare - Keep your washboards clean by washing with warm soapy water. Avoid solvents and grinding dried salt into the acrylic.

Hatches

  • Our washboards - Both fixed and sliding hatches can be fabricated.
  • Manufacturing - Whether flat or curved but is very important to give us exact sizes – particularly for the curvature.
  • Fitting - Our hatches are made for DIY fitting. We also offer a fitting service. Costs vary depending on location. Please contact us for more information.
  • Aftercare - Keep your washboards clean by washing with warm soapy water. Avoid solvents and grinding dried salt into the acrylic.

Astrodomes

  • Our astrodomes - Going on a long or single handed passage? An astrodome is the answer to getting wet or cold in rough weather. We made the first one for Robin Knox-Johnson, the first man to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe non-stop, about 30 years ago.
  • Materials - Astrodomes are usually blown from 10/12mm acrylic.
  • Manufacturing - Astrodomes are usually blown at 500mm diameter. A flange is left on that can be bolted to a hatch enabling you to see out without feeling the weather. In very cold climates misting up can be a problem. This has been overcome by offering a smaller blown dome that fits inside leaving a 10mm gap (double glazed).
  • Fitting - Our astrodomes are made for DIY fitting. We also offer a fitting service. Costs vary depending on location. Please contact us for more information.
  • Aftercare - Keep your washboards clean by washing with warm soapy water. Avoid solvents and grinding dried salt into the acrylic.
